Entrance to the 1992 Class 5A and 6A football title games costs a mere $6 for the opportunity to watch history being made as Wheaton Warrenville South outdueled Joliet Catholic Academy 40-34 in double overtime while DVC rival Naperville North topped Loyola Academy 21-11 for the 6A title — the first time two teams from the same conference had both won state titles.

With his players surrounding him in the first practice in the summer of 1992, Tiger Coach John Thorne explained that they were no longer the Wheaton Central Tigers. He also understood that they might not be ready to call themselves the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers. “So maybe instead this season, we can just be the Red Grange Tigers,” Thorne told them.
