ON THE ROAD TO PARADISE — With three losses to avenge from the season before, the 1982 Castle Knights would get a strong test right out of the gate by facing one of Evansville’s toughest teams — the Mater Dei Wildcats.
Offensively, the Knights shined with 345 yards of total offense, including 230 rushing yards, led by senior running back David Brosmer (83 yards rushing, two touchdowns), junior running back Chris Brosmer (59 yards rushing, one touchdown) and senior running back Joe Dillman (43 yards rushing). Senior quarterback Mike Davis added 115 yards passing, including a five-yard touchdown pass to senior end Kenny “Downtown” Brown.
But it was on defense where the Knights shined the greatest. Led by senior linebackers Rodney Russell and Pat Lockyear, the Blue Crush defense swarmed the Mater Dei attack, limiting the Wildcats to 27 overall yards, a figure brought down by the Wildcats -4 yards rushing.
“It was a sweet win,” Coach John Lidy told the Evansville Courier. “That’s only one win, one game. We’ve still got a long way to go.”
The 1-0 Knights would face Warrick County rival Boonville in Week 2.
